1. The values we actually encounter
Tens of thousands of machines have been through our workshop since 2005. Factory limiters hold no surprises: they are nearly always the same values, family by family.
- 60 or 90 km/h CFMOTO, Polaris and Segway: quads and side-by-sides.
- 60, 90 or 105 km/h Can-Am: Outlander, Renegade, Maverick, Defender, Traxter.
- 180 km/h Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycle.
- Power cap Motorcycles delivered in A2 form: power is capped, not speed.
One and the same model name can carry two different values depending on version and year. That is why the order asks for the exact year and model: the tune is prepared for your configuration, not for a range average.
2. Quads and side-by-sides: 60, 90 and 105 km/h
On a quad or a side-by-side the factory limiter is felt immediately: the engine still has reserve, the speedometer stops moving. Removing that value is included in the tune, just like the work on torque and throttle response.
At CFMOTO, Polaris et Segway Powersports, we record 60 or 90 km/h depending on the version. At Can-Am, a third value appears: 105 km/h. All three are handled the same way, with no dismantling.
The gain does not stop at the speedometer. An unrestricted, calibrated machine pulls harder from low revs, takes load and a trailer better, and responds more cleanly when the throttle reopens.
3. Motorcycles: 180 km/h, and the power-capped versions
On big-bore machines the factory value is nearly always 180 km/h. Harley-Davidson like Indian Motorcycle arrive that way, and the Street Remote tune lifts that limit from the first level.
A motorcycle delivered in A2 form does not carry a speed limiter but a power cap : the ECU already holds the full calibration, it is simply held back. PNP TUNE returns these machines to full power; the detail is explained on the page A2 motorcycle at full power.
4. How it actually works
- You order the solution matching your brand, year and model; the RTD4 interface and the HP Tuners credit pool are included in the packs.
- You read the ECU on the diagnostic socket, at home, with the RTD4.
- We calibrate in the factory tables with VCM Editor, limiter included, and the tune comes back through TDN.
- You flash following the guided procedure. Count on an evening, not a workshop stay.
- Free rollback : the configuration saved before the mapping is restored with the same interface, and the tune is supported for ten years.
The difference between the two levels is the tuning, not the limiter: Street Remote brings our proven calibration, Custom Remote adds a datalogging campaign on your own machine and rounds of adjustment. The reasoning behind this method is set out in our article on HP Tuners.
Frequently asked questions
Is limiter removal included in the tune or billed separately?
It is included. Removing the factory speed limiter is part of the Street Remote and Custom Remote tunes: no surcharge, no option, no second session. From the first level the machine is no longer held back by its factory value.
My quad is limited to 60 km/h: what happens to it?
The factory value is removed and the machine recovers the speed its mechanics allow. On the quads and side-by-sides that come through our workshop, the factory limiter is nearly always 60 or 90 km/h depending on the version; both are handled the same way.
And on a Can-Am?
At Can-Am we have met three values: 60, 90 and 105 km/h. All three are removed from the first level, on the Outlander, Renegade, Maverick, Defender and Traxter covered by our catalogue.
My motorcycle is limited to 180 km/h, is it the same operation?
Yes, and it is the most common value on big-bore machines: Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycle arrive limited to 180 km/h. The limiter is removed within the same tune, with no mechanical work.
How do I know which limiter my machine carries?
The simplest way is to look at what the speedometer refuses to pass, engine warm and on the flat. If you are not sure, give us the exact year, model and trim: we know which value your version carries from the factory.
Do I need to remove anything or send the ECU away?
No. Reading and flashing happen at your place with the HP Tuners RTD4 interface, on the diagnostic socket. You read, we calibrate, you flash: the machine never leaves your garage.
Can the original configuration be restored?
Yes, free of charge and by your own hand. The configuration saved before the mapping is restored with the RTD4, and the tune stays supported for ten years.
